BMW R1200GS

Here is my new bike, its a 2010 BMW R1200GS. I picked it up 2 weeks ago and have covered more KM's in two weeks than I did the whole of last year on my old bike. I can see why people choose these to circumnavigate the world now.

I have always wanted one of these big GS BMW's after watching Ewan McGregor and Charlie Borman do their Long Way Round trip (I highly recommend the DVD) They are so comfortable but I have been worried about the size and weight of them. When they bought out the new 1200 model back 2004 they made them 30KG lighter. This is 2010 model with all the extra toys. I had a low seat fitted and I can handle it fine.
The only thing that worries me is how much it will cost if something goes wrong with it. It has Heated Grips, ABS, Traction Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, Electronically controllable suspension (quiet good fun pressing a button and feeling the bike move up & down), BMW panniers and the Wire Wheel option. But best of all I can sit upright and not get a tired neck ;-)  must be getting old lol!!!
